I'd take "Shitzoid" or "Dickzoid" or "C*ntzoid" over "Sheezoid" any day.

Because you are schizoid doesn't mean you have to act schizoid 100% of the time.
Some of us here have SPD, some have schizoid traits, some are comorbid.
Even if you have SPD and only SPD, everybody has it to a different degree.
I was being facetious but I agree with what you said.

That's how my psychiatrist pronounces it.
It's the way I pronounce it too. There's no friggin "T" in the word; therefore, I see no reason to say "skitzoid."
"Skee-zoid" it is.
"Roll with it."

The Kenyon/Knott pronouncing dictionary of the 1960's lists skizuh-freeniuh as the only current pronunciation. If you know pronouncing terminology, it can be said that the first two syllables have a short I and a schwa; the last three syllables a long E, short I, and schwa. This suggests that the pronunciation of schizoid is ski-zoid, not skit-zoid (the word does not have a 't', not in spelling nor in the historical prounciation.) It would be pronunced ski with the 'i' in 'hit' and zoid with the 'oi' in the vowel of 'boy'. Schizoid was not listed; so skee-zoid for its pronunciation is still possible as well, especially if a distinction in speech between the personality disorder and the more serious psychotic one was wanted. I would trust a psychologist (who seem commonly from this thread to pronounce it 'skee-zoid') above anyone else when the word is a psychological technicality.

I've just looked in a bigger English dictionary and it says it is pronounced "skit'soid" or "skid'zoid", which is the way I have always pronounced it.
The English are the masters of the pronunciation of the English language, so that's the definitive answer.

I can't believe how big this thread has gotten. I had no idea any English speaking person would pronounce it differently than how it says in the dictionary: skit'soid.
Skeez-oid just sounds so weird to my ears. SKEEZ.
If I heard a psychiatrist say it that way I would burst out laughing.

It just occured to me that I've never actually pronounced it outloud.

Dr. Drew Pinsky in America pronounces it skee-zoid.
