schizoid community?

Postby anomico » Sun Sep 09, 2007 3:38 pm

would you live among other schizoids in a rural community and grow your own food to become self-sufficient?
i think most of us find very attractive the idea of living in the countryside, but most of us fear too the complete isolation
i have been searching for rural communities (here, in Spain) and i have realized that most communes are founded and ruled by extroverted people
so im curious...are introverted people interested in living among introverteds?

Interesting, I was just thinking about this the other day....but stopped when I realized that in the US, sustainable living communities generally need to be able to gain non-profit status....in order to be, well, sustainable. I don't know about the legal necessities in Spain though.

To answer your question.... If I were to cast all my current interests aside(career pursuits, namely), my interest would be substantial, as long as I were assured complete solitude.

Indeed, small scale communities like this tend to be fairly dependent on a group effort, so in order to minimize group interactions, I would suspect the beginning stages of building this type of community would require a lot of extensive group work/planning...

Also, I think this idea might work better with introverts, rather than schizoids(could be wrong though...I guess we'll see when people reply)....non-schizoid introverts seem to be more "well rounded"

Blah blah blah. Sorry, you have hit on one of my interests here :)

Go to www.lehmans.com and hit the link for books on self sufficient living. I haven't read any but the titles sound intriguing. Lehman's sells all kind of products to the Amish. I think the paper catalog has a lot more stuff in it and it's easier to browse through. I've ordered some neat stuff there.

Interesting concept, but I don't know how feasible it is.

A self sufficient commune requires strong teamwork among the group to be self sufficient as a whole. Doesn't the required teamwork go against the core of schizoid traits (i.e. isolation and self sufficiency)?

Is the desire for 100% self sufficient, off the grid living really common among schizoids? I understand the self sufficiency part and believe I am self sufficient as far as not requiring anything aside from my pay check to survive, but I do not have the ambition to grow all my own food.

I think this is an interesting idea and that those who are interested in should try to develop it further. Among other things it was the development of this type of "how to live as a schizoid"-ideas I had in mind when starting the "time to get serious?"-thread.

I have visited a couple of communes. I enjoyed living the "simple kind of life". I had no problem sleeping in a yurt in December with no heat, hearing the sounds of mice running about inside. I had no problem chopping firewood or harvesting spinach or any of that. What I did have a problem with was the extroverted people. They would not leave me alone. They thought it was psychologically unhealthy to want to be alone. They really made me think I was deeply flawed and needed to be fixed. (Well, maybe I am. It's all a matter of opinion I guess.)

If the people were introverted and left me alone, I would have enjoyed myself much more. I could imagine myself living in a commune with other people as introverted as myself, if I did not have this urge to travel. It would take a lot of planning, but I think it could be done. Maybe there could be a bulletin board where people could leave messages, or cubby holes where people could leave messages to each other. Weekly meetings, maybe. People would have to figure out which chores would be done by whom, what would be shared, and all of that.

No, I can just as easily disappear in any city and the conveniences of industralisation are too large to be ignored. If you want access to introverted people visit libraries and universities.

And who would provide the motivation to actually get anything done? With most people it would be the survival instinct, but I'm not sure that instinct is strong enough with this crew, from what I've seen on this forum.
