Weighted Blankets

Postby Ashlar » Mon Mar 11, 2019 7:12 am

Tried one. 20 lbs. It does make me sleep sooner, and I think I'm getting more REM sleep.

That said, so-far lots of extreme dreams, maybe nighmares to some. Lots of "drowning during deep sea exploration" type themes.

That said, falling asleep and having weird dreams is preferable to not falling asleep so I'm going to keep at it for a bit. Only 2 days in. Certainly not a comprehensive "treatment" but if it helps me sleep more it might not be a bad thing.

The more sheets/blankets/comforters/cats I have over me, the better I sleep.

I wonder why that is?

Ive looked at them but they are expensive. Did you try one before you bought one? Im not sure my body would like extra weight. Its screwed up and the position I have to sleep in makes it even worse.

I just bought the highest rated one on amazon blind, and yeah it was a little expensive.

I'm also not sure if "my body" tolerates the weight well. First two nights I had nightmares that were clearly kinda related to the blanket. Last night I did not, but did have a weird dream. I will say I'm 3/3 for vivid dreams at least, for good or ill. I do think it makes me fall asleep a bit faster so-far, but it's also kinda hot.

I was surprised at how mine lived up to the hype. The pressure's been very good for my RLS, which can be painful and distracting most nights. I understand balking at the price. Lucky mine was gifted.

My only advice to others would be to think of how you plan to wash it before buying.

Are we talking about restless leg syndrome?

If so, I was never diagnosed, and only had symptoms come and go for maybe half a year. But that was enough.

It's like having anxiety in your legs.

I love mine! I have severe anxiety and used to be woken by night tremors/attacks, so my boyfriend got me a 12lb, stone weighted blanket.

I honestly haven’t had a severe attack since then. I sleep with it every night. When it’s a really warm night, I fold it up and just place it over my stomach so I still have the extra weight, but don’t overheat.

I’d definitely recommend it

I have discovered it is tied in with low iron levels. Read it somewhere and noted it seemed to be true.
As for cat sleeping on top of me, ( I have one only ), I love it except when RLS is happening. Then I feel the electrical impulses from her body aggravate mine and I become short of breath and think I'm going to have a seizure.
