Rule of thumb: there are just two basic emotions: pleasure and fear.
And you can determine how you or the person you deal with feels by observing how they interact with you. Do they act positively or negatively, then there is pleasure or fear - either on your or on their side.

I have thought myself to be alexithymic so I can't really help. Whether I am or not is a different story. It's rare that I feel an actual emotion that moves me. It's more based on an energy level and how I channel that energy. My happiness is just high energy. My sadness is just low energy. My anger is usually just frustration. I guess a lot of my time is in mindless contentment. It's usually why I don't like being disturbed.
