How Do You Feel About People?

Postby CityMouse » Tue Sep 04, 2018 2:35 am

As SPD sufferers, do you feel that people are out to get you, that they're too controlling, or that they're merely boring?

None of the above. I like other people just fine...as long as they stay at the requisite distance.

OK in small doses. Often boring. Conventional. Talk too much.

Boring. Sometimes blithely duplicitous. Often untrustworthy. Of course, there are exceptions.

I am aware that my view of others is usually distorted.

I should clarify and say that it's probably my expectations that are distorted.

If you like them just fine, why do you want them to keep their distance?

What makes you assume it's distorted?

None of the above for me either, though I wouldn't go as far as to say that I "like people just fine".

The problem isn't really people. I think most people think that "most other people are stupid" (or "bad" or "wrong" or "unpleasant" in some other way), even if they won't say it. That's normal. It doesn't keep them from being sociable and enjoying it, because "most people" simply don't matter. The problem is that, in general, interacting with people doesn't feel rewarding to me, even people who I actually like.
Is this now?

Because I shut them out. I disregard them and don't see them as individuals. I assume there's little beyond the surface. I make generalizations, kind of like what emillionth said. But remember my clarification: it's probably my expectations that are distorted.

I think I expect a lot of people to understand me better than they do, even though I don't give them very much at all to work with. It's like the echo chamber I live in is made of mirrors which I think are glass.

With people, as with many other things, what you put in is what you get out.

People are useful for me to live the life I live. It could be worse so I'd rather not complain about them. However, I do believe things could be a better if logic ruled the day. Then again, emotion and ego can also have a positive impact. I think a better balance could be found, based on equality. No need to support the bad eggs due to circumstances. Either way, I can't really decide right or wrong and therefore live on the outskirts.

If you know that then why do you do it?
