Optimisism, pessimism or realism?

Postby iabsurdlyexist » Sun Aug 26, 2018 1:33 am

I don't know why I am an optimist or at least I seem that way. Now a cynical optimist? Maybe I am just lucky or Karma is accurate? What are your experiences? Do you turn a negative good or is a negative always bad? Paranoia, fear, pessimism?

My father was a alcoholic and never there, my mother a paranoid schizo and died in her 50's, I was possibly sexually abused and disowned by mother when a child yet I twist things positive, possibly delusional. What makes one person take a certain turn vs. another? I could be a horrible person and worthless yet I made something of nothing. Life is so weird.

How do you diagnose your life?

I'm a philosophical pessimist. I have read parts of Schopenhauer's Studies In Pessimism and some Stoic literature. As a pessimist, I lower my expectations so that I'm not disappointed and am quite happy with very little.

Keep them all in your collection of masks to use for different environments, but at my core I'm pessimistic. Ten billion people on this ball, many of them incredibly lacking, and there's no way as a tiny individual to push back against their momentum to fix fundamental issues... so I'm just overall disappointed.

Make me wonder if I am truly a pessimist but I mask with optimism.

I would say I'm a cynical realist.

I think I am probably a realist.

I notice that people tend to eulogize events -- especially in this era of social media. I prefer my events unframed, just because it allows for the most immediate processing. Just, "I accept that that was a thing that happened," instead of being proof of some overarching judgement of all things.

...which makes me absolute crap at weddings and funerals, but great in emergencies.

My life is a little bit optimist, pessimist and realist. It's MOSTLY fantasy though.

One of my fantasies is a form of socialism. I think that outlook is also optimistic.
