What do you do? Do you like it/would you recommend it? Anyone do data entry? Do you like it? Why or why not?

I work as a screener in outpatient mental health and substance abuse. Despite having to interact with people constantly, I do enjoy it because abnormal psychology is probably my biggest interest and I get to study certain behaviors for disorders and hear different stories.

Computer programmer and jet engine mechanic. They were alright while they lasted. Due to abilities, I end up getting promoted and I dont seem to do well as a manager. I'm a bit burnt out but would do either one again. I just have to remember to say no to promotions and see if I can just get the money instead. I don't think it works that way.

I can't sustain boredom inducing positions so while I can do data entry, there would be a limit for how long I could maintain it.

Isn't programming boring too? What do you like about it?

I was mainly a web programmer so I did online reports, forms and applications. Since it was a small web team, I was also a pseudo-dba. So, all the different things plus knowledge areas kept it interesting and since it was web based, instant gratification of the work I did. In my free time, I recently made an online form of the AQ and RAADS-R for ASD.

I think the key for schizoids is finding a career where they can focus on the problem, rather than the people. I think that there is a lot of that in every industry. For example, believe it or not, I'm a teacher, but my approach is very different, in that I look at education as a training system for my students, and finding the optimal way to deliver content, encourage practice, assess, etc. It's not that different from people who design software.

Menial jobs, like data entry will be okay, especially if you are starting at the bottom, or are depressed. It's a mindless buck, that is clean and doesn't require any passion. It's not much of a payday though. There are a lot of mindless service jobs that require minimal interaction that do pay better.

A lot of the trades are very independent and make good money. You have plumbing, electrical, welding, repair of all kinds, machinist, tool and die, carpentry. You have things like long-distance trucking, delivery people, etc.

For the math people, there are accountants and actuaries, analysts -- marketing or financial or economic. Happy jobs crunching numbers all day and maybe having to explain a little harder to a CEO once and a while.

There are technicians and technologists for those who like science/engineering/tech -- software, biomedical, hardware, etc.

For the more art /history/ language oriented, there are translators, editors (print, video, audio), technical writers, archivists, layout designers, industrial designers, product designers, craftspeople, night bakers, etc.

I would just avoid retail and public service jobs for the most part, unless you can appreciate the problem-solving aspect.

There's a german song about schizoids looking for a job. It's called "Na Na Na Na".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRRiROYazJw
It names job oxymorons e.g. someone working for Facebook without any friends,
vegans working at the slaughterhouse, a lobbyist who gets a rash from lying,
The refrain goes like this:
"But I don't know what to become, there are so many interesting things,
I just know that I want something without human beings,
nothing with media, nothing with languages, nothing with Latin America,
but mainly without out human beings, na na na na."

I've done data entry before. All of my jobs have been menial (despite having a degree). I just don't have any passion for much. I just don't care about jobs much lol....

Same here. I hate having to pretend I'm someone I'm not at work (i.e., someone who is passionate about the job lol)
