I think most love songs are just cliche doing what was sang about in the 40's/50's, the only thing really changing is the style, I like old hit love songs like from 60's girl groups, but I imagine modern versions to sicken me upon hearing. But there are also love songs that intentional or not, recognized or not, that I read personally like a "love" song, an example of this would be Eminem's Kim, its a song about a man abducting and killing the mother of his child...but "love" is more complex to me than the cliche love invented and marketed to people for money, and not need be "romantic", "happy" or sappy.
Some love-ish songs I like, it was actually hard to find them even though I used my laptop to look, so I guess "love" songs aren't favored by me;
Swear never to be gentle
To always be unkind
For love is hard to handle
For love will rob you blind
The burden of saintliness
The temptation to kneel
The mute fear of being caught
In vapours of sin
We who sing of the void
We who burn with love
So strangely plaintive
So strangely complete
In a few drunken hours
In a few hasty words
From our watering mouths
Lose all we came here for
If you were mine
I'd blush a little and die
Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang:
"Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you"
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks
For you sing:
'Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow
O my heart, o my heart, shies from the sorrow'
I am puzzled as the oyster
I am troubled as the tide:
Should I stand amid your breakers?
Should I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing, 'Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you:
Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you'
[Intro, spoken]
When I say I'm in love, you best believe I'm love: L-U-V!
[Verse 1]
Here comes my guy
Walking down the street
Look how he walks
With a dancing beat (da-da-da-da-da)
Thick wavy hair (da-da-da-da-da)
A little too long
All day long he's a-singing his song
[Chorus]
And when I see him in the street
My heart takes a leap and skips a beat
Gonna walk right up to him
Give him a great big kiss! Mwah!
Tell him that I love him
Tell him that I care
Tell him that I'll always be there
[Bridge, spoken]
Well, what color are his eyes?
I don't know, he's always wearing shades
Is he tall?
Well, I've got to look up
Yeah? Well I hear he's bad
Mm, he's good bad, but he's not evil
(sung)
Tell me more, tell me more
[Verse 2]
Big bulky sweaters (tell me more)
To match his eyes (tell me more)
Dirty finger nails (tell me more)
Oh boy, what a prize! (tell me more)
Tight tapered pants
High button shoes
He's always looking like he's got the blues
[Chorus]
[Outro, spoken]
Is he a good dancer?
What do you mean is he a good dancer?
Well, how does he dance?
Close... very, very close...
