Schizoids, do you take care of yourselves?

Postby Aikenhead » Sat Jan 06, 2018 6:07 pm

Do you get enough sleep, eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and/or practice good hygiene?

Do you smoke, drink, and/or do drugs?

I've seen people online "imagine" schizoids as dishevelled, unwashed, unshaven hermits. Perhaps there is some truth to that, but I thought I'd ask here.

I admit wouldn't as much if I didn't live with someone. He reminds me to do things often enough. Typically I don't forget...I just don't want to. He got me to quit drugs and drinking. He got me to eat healthier. I'm good about hygiene, but that's as far as I go.

Yup he's a good guy. I was definitely going through a downward spiral at the time. Not sure what would've happened if he hadn't stepped in.

I'm happiest when alone; being around others has never been enjoyable to me. I think in order to be considered "disordered" I'd have to be negativity affected by my lifestyle.

I generally do for the most part. Lack of motivation can make it hard at times. I'm more likely inclined to make myself a bit less disheveled when I know I am seeing someone or going to my classes. I try to keep some kind of routine that I can do every day just to make myself a bit more encouraged. Sometimes it can be hard to eat because one of my meds makes my nauseous, but I try to force myself to eat something every couple of hours.

^^I used to think i was unique and cool but looking at it through the diagnostic eyes of having a somewhat 'blunted affect" i am seeing myself with brain damage, now. Possibly in utero.

I'm sort of limping around now for the first time in my life. It's triggered by an introspection that says i have an invisible hatchet buried in through my forehead, all the way into my frontal lobes.

Everyday i shave with an electric razor and shower, and brush my teeth in the morning, and water pick and fluoride treat at night.

I trim my eyebrows when needed and nose hairs and ear hair with a special trimmer.

I drink socially, and at home i take whiskey shots here and there. I might go through a bottle once year.

And I drink wine with some dinners around the house.

I have blood work drawn up once a year.

Cholesterol is borderline.

I do not smoke or take drugs.

I take care of my home and vehicles.

I change the oil here at home and whatever other maintenance comes up. In my younger days i've rebuilt 1 auto engine and put that in with a little outside help. I'm mechanically inclined and have a boat load of tools for every type of work. I've remolded this house from the ground up over the last 15 years.

I take care of everything. Don't scratch my truck! I park it where it cant happen.

I do practise some kind of emotional hygiene. Because I know I don't get along with emotional stressing situations, I avoid them or develop strategies how to avoid triggers better. Does not work always, but I do the best that I can. On the other side I try to cherish supportive relationships with good friends/SO who really (try to) understand my situation. That is a thing that I try, but cannot enforce. Anyway chances are not very high. So I always have a surrogate plan B in case I don't succeed.
