Odd. I honestly thought i'd score slightly higher.
I always thought my empathy is just fine, i can put myself in somebody else's shoes no problem. but i can't sympathize with people. since that requires an emotional response, while empathy feels more of a logic thing.

"Empathy" can have different meanings, but what they're trying to measure with that test is the emotional response. Logic doesn't count, even if it may work well enough for you. If you apply logic and conscious thought when emotion and gut feeling is normally expected, your score is supposed to be lower by definition.

This was my conundrum also. I believe cognitive empathy is the correct term for logical empathy. I always felt that sympathy and compassion meant a reaction where empathy was just the ability to know the other persons plight. However, affective empathy is responding correctly, which, I definitely struggle with.

Personally, I believe cognitive empathy provides an unbiased and clear-headed approach. Unfortunately, in an emotional charged world, that isn't usually the best response.

54/80

My therapist tells me I got a gift when it comes to empathy. However, my anxiety and mistrust usually makes things a lot harder. It would explain my talent when it comes to animals too. People tell me they are surprised at how easily I can handle them, especially horses.

I scored 24. I did not like that score, because I DO have empathy.
So I changed some of the answers I wasn't sure about and got 34.
I am OK with that score.

I am not particularly strong on reading nonverbal cues in social situations, but there is nothing wrong with my empathy.

I got 30/80.

Social injustice and animal cruelty bother me more than the problems people close to me are having.

But, logically, how does one tell if a response is applying "logic and conscious thought" rather than "emotion and gut feeling"? Since my emotional response may be your logical one.
