Nice that it went well for you, but you can't help people warning you off.
Look at your original post. The way you described your mother, your aunts, your forced placement within the family, all of the family dynamics, was such that anyone would have warned you off from re-engaging.
You either had a skewed image of them, or you only gave part of the story in your original post.
Note: if your mother and your aunt are narcissists, as you've said, I'd keep my guard up if I were you.
