I've tried to reply to this thread a few times lately but the website bugs out on me.
I just want to point out that:
Schizoid is more like "split from society".
Schizotypal is more like "split from logic/conventional logic".
Schizophrenic is more like "split from reality".
From an outsiders perspective all of these things can look very similar.
Autism, which as one of its symptoms seems to include an inability to comprehend social rules and such, can definitely look like an indifference to social rules that a schizoid might have. But internally there is a difference, one doesn't understand it, the other doesn't care.
And the other one that often comes up is Avoidant personality disorder. I think the main thing there is the avoidant person "wants" certain things, and the schizoid person actively doesn't want those things.

Thank you, Ashlar - I like that, very succinct. I shall try to remember it next time someone asks me what SPD is.

Not sure about how schizotypal develops, but from what I understand if you get diagnosed schizophrenic then you likely had it when younger too. I have what my therapist and I think is a form of schizophrenia (not officially dx yet), but I've had delusional thoughts related to the paranormal and often religion since childhood. I've seen and heard things when tired, but I don't believe that counts for anything. I've lost touch with reality before many times, and do my best to ignore thoughts that people tell me aren't real by absorbing myself in daydreaming. I know that's not perhaps the healthiest solution, but for now it works for me.
