I barely log in any more to social media. There is way too much drama and self-aggrandisement there. A few people are tolerable and I actually enjoy reading their posts because I respect their opinions, so sometimes I log in just to check their page. I know I should just delete all the people who irritate me, but for some reason I don't want to. So, I just avoid it instead.
It makes sense for business promotion, or other type of self-promotion if a person is a public figure. But for the standard person, I think if someone is spending a lot of time on social media, especially those people who post all day, every day, updating with a new photo every day, it just seems symptomatic of something terribly wrong or missing in their lives. I could be wrong, though.
