It is difficult, sometimes it feels like they can see right through my attempt but if I care enough to keep up a decent image (ie: the conflict would make my life more difficult or I respect the person) I do it anyway to avoid offense.

Good to know I'm not the only one who does this and likely isn't a sociopath in any case, but I'd have to agree that it is antisocial behavior. Never bothered me either up until the past year or two.
