I hate parties because

Postby jradetzky » Mon Feb 05, 2007 7:28 pm

I hate parties because I was exposed to them from a very early age (like 3 or so), and they just hurt my sensibility. My memories of those parties are of a bunch of people drinking, smoking, flirting, and being sick with loud background music. Actually, my parents took me to this kind of parties until I was like 15 or something when I told them that I couldn't take it anymore. From those experiences, I therefore assumed that all parties where the same and never attended one on my own.

However, I've just discovered there is an alternative kind of parties that have no alcohol, tobacco, sex and loud music: Christian parties. They're just about good food, good conversation, and someone giving a speech. I wish all parties could be the same.

it's just a shame you have to put up with religious bollocks for the duration....

i like parties as long as i'm the only guest (and the host) and the only other invitees are a takeaway meal, some cider and the tv.

Yar. I went to several last year--mostly for the free food--but no more. I didn't mind the religious stuff and actually enjoyed Xmas party when I had to sing Carols--I had never done so in my life--because I wished I had done so as a child. Then in one of these parties I met my dreamgirl, the one that caused me to end up in this forum.

Christians are usually more difficult for me to cope with than other people because they're obliged by their beliefs to pay attention to me - at parties or elsewhere. Even being rude to them doesn't put them off. I understand that the reason the local vicar says Good Morning to me if I meet him in the street is that it's his job, but I'd still prefer him not to, and I cross the street if I see him coming. But there are degrees of awfulness among Christians; e.g., Charismatics are much, much more intrusive than Calvinists, and Calvinist social occasions tend to involve people discussing theological questions abstractly instead of having "fun". I can cope with that kind of discussion, and sometimes even find it interesting.

So yes, I agree; some Christian gatherings can be quite tolerable.

i dont hate parties but i dont like them either

the things that i dont really like are the loud noises, music, movement, lights. I kind of have the need to watch all of it. then i freeze up trying. to much background noise, too much movement too many lights. people are talking and i cant hear them so i just nod my head most of the time. or say what till they get annoyed.

Then you have a reaction to my being uncomfortable and tense.

Are you having fun, you look nervous

no. but i dont have to have fun to be here.

yup, totally agree. i think i’d end up offending everyone i’d speak to.

although, conversations like that can be amusing. This summer, i heard a protestant girl talk about her religious beliefs. Well, the crap they believe in: amazing
you know your brainwashed when you’re saying stuff like: ‘and then the antichrist will rule the earth, but after three years, the kingdom of jerusalem will come down on earth and all the archangels blahblahblah’
(can’t remember if that was exactly what she said, but it was something alike)

Add some singing and i’d run, but if it works for you, go get em.

The concept sounds ok, but i’d pick a lecture about a different topic

About the actual topic
I hate parties because i can't 'loosen up' (without getting drunk)

Yar. To me it sounds like Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings and stuff when talk about kingdoms, angels, ruling the Earth. It's pretty harmless, though. Besides, girls who really buy into it remain pure until marriage and that is something very important to me. At least religion has something positive to offer.

yeah probably, that girl i was talking about was very fundamentalistic and i know they’re not all like that (luckily).
But fundamentalistic or not, i’d clash with every religious person in general.
It’s just something i can’t comprehend. I don’t even share the same values as christians.

I'd say the earth being 6000 thousand years old is retarded enough, but it's way worse than that: thousands, millions of adults believe the rapture is going to happen, is desirable and will happen in their lifetimes. That the Apocalypse is desirable because this magical dude will descend from the clouds and tell sheeps to follow him. These people can vote. Hell, one of them can become the president.

I can't understand why a lot of people that know this don't see mainstream religions as a menace.

By the way, I don't like parties because they are too noisy, there are usually people there and because I would only be able to forget how horrible they make me feel if I ended up drunk. I hate being drunk, it makes people stupid, reckless and more promiscuous. Particularly that last fact, for my disgrace.
