Let's ramble a bit more.

Yup. Happiness is all about appreciating the little things every day. My kids make me laugh, my dogs do too. I love the smell of cinnamon bread and sterling silver roses. I love a good book that I can get lost in, and beautiful sunset. Watching a toddler toddle down the street with joy at his own ability to walk. Nothing is better than Spring bursting out pink and white all over. Nothing better than an evening with old friends laughing until our sides hurt and we get the hickups.

Being able to appreciate lots of small things, every day, even in the worst of times, make for a happy life. imo

Ramble on dudes and dudettes.

...Cinnamon bread and Sterling Silver roses... that I can relate to..
furry cats, colorful sunsets, the texture of tree bark in the rain, a certain slant of light on an autumn afternoon, those sort of things can make a person feel like all is right with the world; If only for a little while and honestly, a little while is all we get...so enjoy it while you can...if you can.

That is kind of funny, given that I've always had rats who are consistently unafraid of the cat once they realize she can't get to them but they can yank her fur. But since it's only pathogenic after two days in the litter tray I guess I'm being saved by my clean freakness since I clean the box twice a day :P

Personally my theory is that if my rats had something they could give me I've kissed them on the belly / feet / back / head and shared food with them I already have it and am imune.

Ditto.

the girl who i would call my "best friend" is about to have her first baby (guess who's godmother? but i don't mind, i get on better with kids on the whole) - but she is having to be really aware of toxoplasmosis, especially since she lives in the deep dark wilderness countryside with 3 dogs and a cat and some horses.

also, she's coming to visit me (don't worry, she knows i need a wide berth, she's known me for almost 20 years) and i'm going to have to make sure my cats down bring any dead things in...

According to Lex Luthor from television's Smallville "Happiness is just a feeling of euphoria. It's your brain chemistry going in overdrive. That's why so many relationships fail when the honeymoon ends and reality sets in."

One of my favorite quotes of all time and this topic very much reminds me of it.
“I'm not a paranoid deranged millionaire. Goddamit, I'm a billionaire.” - Howard Hughes

A better word to describe schoids would be "content." That is, content is to happiness as discontent is to sadness.
