If someones idea of "love" is self-centered, manipulative, or coersive than it isn't love. I agree that most peoples personal idea of love is selfish. It is selfish in that it focuses exclusively on their wants, needs, status, and security. Howeverer, there have been several published reports of those who completely abandon themselves for the sake of another person(s). Their are probably many different rationals and reasons that people could postulate upon, but to me it could only be an act of selfless love.

PS
I'm probably making this forum look bad. Whoever heard of a sappy, sentimantal Schizoid?

i myself understand the concept of love, but never miss anyone

i replace this void with sacrifice or loyalty.

i always have to constantly gage the level of myself i give. there is no automatic gage. its manual

to much can tendoverwhelm people and not enough means I'm a cold hearted bastard.

I have to say that I'm pretty much of the opinion that humans always act selfishly, and that being selfish is part of our biology. It's just that in some cases, the benefits one might receive from doing something (which helps others) are not always tangible or obvious. I don't think anyone truly self-sacrifices. Even people who give up their lives to save someone else, I think it is the happiness and satisfaction that comes from feeling as if they are "doing the right thing" which gives them the strength and motivation to do it. Not that that's bad or anything, it's simply how our brains seem to work. Of course, my opinion and perception of the world is definitely biased toward my own (cold) feelings.

i think the word that can sum up a schizoid is "rational"

rational is subjective from person to person but i feel its sums up schozoid in one word.

Rational love

rational anger.

rational relationships.

I agree, human being are 90% selfish. But, they are also full of surprises and unexpected reactions. I guess I'm just a hopeless optimist.

Yes...I've often wondered if rationality is the only tool that I have.

Prot,
The terms "rational love" and "rational anger" are oxymorons. There is very little about emotion that is rational.
