Best career for SPD?

Postby SchizyOfAstora » Fri Jul 25, 2014 5:56 pm

What's, in your opinion, the best career that a person with SPD could take? We already know that the person needs to be alone as much as possible. So that's at least a start.

I dont think relating to other people superficially is a problem to me.

I think avolition, detachment, poor rapport and cognitive disorganization are the main problems, but I dont know if they are as severe in schizoids as they are in schizotypals. You can learn how to relate.

Know it is hard to me to motivate my self to do more than basics.
It is also hard to guess what people expect.
Relating to first, it is hard to me to take long projects and plan them.

In short I think we need a job were our responsabilities are clear and that are more task oriented than managing.

I work with IT. But I am planning moving to civil service.

For some works in IT people need to be a little workaholic.

Working in the morgue. Joking, but for some reason someone suggested that to me after hearing some of my problems with working life

Getting off welfere - some people really deserve it, unlike the stupid single moms that just repeat the cycle of getting ###$ *mod edit*.

As a general observation, when you change your job, or role, you're just replacing one headache with another, with the possibility of it being worse, but not any better. Therefore, all options are pretty much forfeit.

A writer who's first book was an international bestseller and now your rich, so you have all the time to write more, without external pressures like earning enough money to eat. Ah this my 2nd job fantasy (the 1st being a filmmaker who can make a independent movie whenever I like and everybody operates and changes their lives to accommodate me).

I'd like to be a solo night guard, but in England you need a license that costs like £200, forget that, I might not like it.

IMAO the last two just don't work with SPD. These jobs need a person that is willing to move to a lot of different places everyday. I don't think a schizoid could endure that. The last one is even worse, since you have to go to people's homes and interact with them.

For me i would require isolation, no deadlines, nobody to tell me what to do constantly (just a general idea and some important details of what i'm supposed to do), a computer to work with, and something that it's not very far from home.
So i have to find something to work at home if i wish to fulfill my desires. A writer, programmer/hacker or something like that.

My guess is that every job for us is screwed. There's hardly anything that we enjoy doing other than isolation, daydreaming and some other few things.

Handyman? Really?...

I think the best career (not job) for schizoids is going to be something highly skilled and obscure. The successful career model that I'm familiar with, but am unable to execute, is thusly; get a very specific skill and make your living off it. You can make a lot of money with few hours because your skill is specified and obscure. Whatever that skill is is going to be down to the individual.

Now, I think being successful requires mild-moderate schizoid. I can't imagine an extreme schizoid being able to muster enough motivation or interest in these things long-term.

I think long distance truck driver (or any truck driver really) might be good for some.

I can handle 9-5 workplace interaction, but I think that if I really wanted to isolate myself, I would become a night baker.

Also to consider might be something like a graphic designer/web designer where you can do a lot of correspondence and interaction by email.
