Figured this would be a good first. Y'know, I was actually thinking about this topic today. I think my sister's cat is a schizoid. I can walk up to him and pet him a bit. But after a bit of petting, he's like, "okay, that's enough, move along", which he signals with a sufficient bite. Having realized the parallels between my personality and SPD's diagnosis criteria, I can appreciate and relate to that behavior. Also, in my experience it seems that cats give off the vibe of not really needing people. Especially cats who get a fair amount of outdoor time. Not a cat freak, but I can appreciate them more than dogs. Dogs seem to remind me of a person who is dependent on someone else for emotional fulfillment. Those people annoy me. A cool quote that I saw and had to look up again for this posting: God made the cat so that man might have the pleasure of caressing the tiger. -Fernand Mery

P.S. I did not include any animals other than standard house pets because I don't have an opinion on them. Except for non-human simians. They're interesting and fun to watch.

Was going to come up with a clever welcome message, but got bored so Welcome
As for the cat vs dog thing I have noticed that most people who are introverted seem to like cats more than dogs while it is vice-versa with extroverts. Think it has something to do with each animal lining up with the personality of the owner. I personally like cats over dogs, but prefer dogs over humans.

I like dogs but they are to much effort. Getting a couple of cats next week. Gonna be nice with some like minded company for a change.

Hmm. Animals are an interesting case. Just like with humans, I don't bond with animals. I don't mind spending time with them, and I don't find their emotional needs as difficult to fulfill as humans. For example, I took care of my mom's cat when she was ill in the hospital. When it needed affection it would come and jump on my lap and insinuate its head under my hand, and I would pet it. Because of its simplicity and directness, I didn't mind fulfilling that need, and even enjoyed it sometimes. I remember that the cat bonded with me. After a while it would come and sleep with me and nuzzle it's head on my shoulder. But after I moved out, when I come home, it acts like I'm a stranger, so apparently animals don't bond with me in the same way I don't bond with them, and I find that very interesting.

i dont think cats bound.
they like it when you pet them. thats it. i like it when i pet them too. but if they do something they are not supposed to, there is no compromise.

Considering that cats will tend to eat their owners when they die (instead of mourning their death as dogs would), I am inclined to believe this statement to be correct. :P

Like I've stated on previous posts, I dislike animals more than I dislike humans.

I would say I dislike dogs more than cats, but I definitely don't like cats at all. They're awful and you wouldn't find me feeding any strays anytime soon. Sometimes I wish we could hunt them like they do with other animals, not that I would necessarily partake in the hunting personally since stray cats mostly stay out of the way in my experience.

People should protect animals and treat them well. Factory farming is wrong.

Can't protect all the animals. Animals hunt and kill other animals, including cats.
