The characteristics state that those with SPD do not have close personal relationships with those other than 1st level family. Would that then mean that you would then have what could be considered a "normal" relationship with your family?
My family don't know. They know me [as much as someone can know an SPD], but thy don't know that I have it. I can see no advantage to telling them and significant disadvantages to the same. I think my dad is actually borderline SPD, slightly less severe than me.

My family doesn't know. I've tried to be more open with them lately, but they don't know the names for what's going on. I've just told them some of the symptoms.

if they know symptoms they have not researched them? Come to think about it, my parents know certain symptoms and have never done anything about knowing that with having different issues then you all.

Since my word doesn't count, I've already had two shrinks (one psychologist and one psychiatrist) talk to them and explain that ruining their expectations of how I should be or what I should achieve is not exactly a priority of mine, and that pressuring me is never going to do any good.
If they decide to be offended by anything I don't do, it's their own problem. Now, if they want to squeeze water out of stone, I can only say "I told you so (and so did the shrink, btw)".

Not really.
But they think I'm some sort of a loner weirdo.

No, and it will remain that way for a very long time. As others have said telling them would just be more of a hassle than not telling them. Not that I care what they'd think, it would just be awkward because I imagine they would want to 'help' me. My mother probably knows already or at least suspicion but I've straight up lied to her face before and she seems to take what I say as the truth so if it was ever bought up I'd just lie again.

They might. I cut myself off from them. I guess I blame them for my problems.

Sp does anyone here think that they should know? - I'm getting the impression that it's mostly no (or don't care) from these posts, except the person who said they're supportive of the diagnosis (overt schizoid).
Dx: Schizoid.
Rx: none.
