Who would be compatible with someone with SPD?

Postby Daven » Fri Apr 12, 2013 10:34 pm

Hi, I'm new here and just found out today by accident from my G.P. as he was talking into a voice recorder that I'm diagnosed as Schizoid Personality Disorder. I googled the wiki entry for it (which is quoted a lot on here) and it certainly seems to account for a lot of things, I seem like a fairly typical SPD plus/minus a few things that doesn't apply to every SPD.

I'm wondering, it's quite hard for us to find partners I think. Who would be compatible with someone with SPD, where they're both happy?
I don't mind spending everyday with someone, as long as they don't place emotional demands and I have my space when I feel like it.

edit:
found a similar topic on here via googling, but no definitive answers for me:
schizoid-personality/topic27618.html
Dx: Schizoid.
Rx: none.

I dont think its a matter of being hard to find a partner, rather than hard to want a partner. Personally I dont want a partner atleast not now, probably never.

As to who would be compatible to a Schizoid maybe another introvert, because they'd be less likely to drag the Schizoid to social events like parties, and both would get the proper alone time they need.

A cat -- because I think the odds of two introverts, an introvert/schizoid pair, or schizoid/schizoid pair starting a conversation in a public setting if they do not know each other already are one in forty billion. Consider how difficult it would be just to initiate contact, let alone to make "the first move."

Oh, mercy! This, a thousand times this. By definition SPD's are unlikely to go into a setting/environment where they meet new people like this [parties etc], even less so to pursue it during the initial stages. I don't think finding a partner is especially difficult [heck look at how often the norms change/cheat their partners], but probably those initial stages are the biggest problem for us.

Heck, I freely admit that I don't know how to start relationships like that. Literally no clue how to meet potential partners without relying on speed dating or websites. I don't party and am pretty isolated as a rule, like most SPD's.

"Who would be compatible with someone with SPD?"

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I discovered that I feel attracted towards people with schizoid personality. But why?

- I'm asexual (but if I'm in love, I would have wild sex if my partner wants to ), so that's great for most schizoids

- I'm not sociable, though I have great social abilities (I think I'm friendly and easy going, in fact, most people think I'm super extrovert). And if we have to socialize, then I would "do" it for him

- I'm comprehensive: I know schizoids need their own space, so I respect that

- I don't have a family, so no dinners with the family, no weddings, etc.

- I'm not ambitious, so I wouldn't expect much from him (if he's happy with a mediocre job and a simple life, that's perfect for me)

- I'm willing to give more. Obviously, I would expect some things from him: like displays of affection, not everyday... But maybe once or twice a week? That's not too much, I think

- To me, life has no sense (you know, "that friend of us": anhedonia), so I would perfectly understand his feelings

- I have been told that "I have the gift to deal with schizoids" (two schizoids told me that, in fact, one of them wanted me to be his girlfriend, unfortunately, he moved out to another city, so...)

Well, IDK, but I think that the schizoid personality adjusts to mine. Hmmm, maybe it sounds weird, but it's true.

Gentlemen with SPD, I don't think I can imagine a more welcoming invitation than this (referring to above post :)

I think the trick would be to obtain an object of value from the other which can only be returned on the next date. So if you go on a first date with a schizoid, steal something from him. Let him know you have it, and are willing to give it back on your next date, and repeat.
Or if you're a schizoid and you want to have motivation to see someone again, give them something of value to you.
I'm actually only half-joking on this, some of my "friendships" have been maintained by unpaid debts and unreturned items. And I tried to force myself to make a second date with a guy by asking to borrow his Akira movie. Thing is, he couldn't lend me the movie right away, cause we were at a restaurant and I didn't really wanna go to his house on a first date, so I never saw him again.
And I still haven't seen Akira :(
not quite right

It's tough to explain.

But if this was 1000 years ago, and marriage was based on things like property and the like, I could make it work.

In this age where marriage is based on romance and other things? I have no chance.

A visually projected version of my fantasy girl that can be turned on and off whenever I want.

Seriously though, I have found a few girls I'd be willing to try dating but never got to that stage so I don't know for sure. I usually consider girls that are easy-going and relaxed.
I think what I'd need isn't someone who doesn't need to be loved, because I have the capacity to show affection and I'd want them to appreciate it when I do. I'd want someone who doesn't actively ask for it so I can display it in my time in my own way.
Where I am, I don't know, I'll never know, in the silence you don't know, you must go on, I can't go on, I'll go on.
