Alcoholism runs in my family. It killed my mother and destroyed my father's short term memory - Korsakov's. There is thought to be a genetic predisposition to alcoholism too. The best way to make sure not to become an alcoholic is to never drink. And I'm not stupid. So I don't drink. I did drink enough wine to get dizzy one time - some chick was trying to get me drunk. Probable 'rape' attempt.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

I see it as my way of promoting self-control. Spit in the face of the odds saying I should be an alcoholic. My fondest smell memories are of my dads alcohol smell and of old bars or bowling alleys. I think I walk the tightrope between casual drinking and alcoholism. Considering my age, I think I have it mastered.

Same. What works for me is to live my life as though my father's alcoholism and my own habits are totally unrelated. If anything I think it gives me more discipline. I know the risks, and I'm out to beat them.

When I drink casually, I'm always aware of this petty part of me that wants to prove to my dad how easy it is not to overdo it. I have to prove we're nothing alike, and that what he put me through was so unnecessary and stupid.

I think I have a slight allergy to alcohol. Whenever I drink, my glands swell and the back of my neck hurts.

A few years ago I felt pressured to go out to clubs etc. because that was normal for people my age. I could only really get into the vibe of it if I drank heavily or if I took uppers like coke.

I don't feel a need to go out anymore and as such I don't really drink.
