Schzioaffective for ten years!

Postby Baghera » Tue May 07, 2019 2:50 pm

This is how I would describe it.

‘My own mental health changes sometimes like the weather.

The weather can be calm for many weeks, sometimes pleasant or sunny- these conditions are perfect for building your life and foundations- like home.

Unfortunately some weather events you can’t fully plan for. If a hurricane comes you need to plan what you can to survive and your home and life you built in the calm can feel like its been ripped apart.

Now that hurricane is in your mind- its not necessarily real but its impact can be as devastating as a real traumatic event.

A psychology experiment involved audience looking at a merry-go-round that actually changed colour from blue to purple. 1 out of 500 people may have noticed this change but a lot didn’t realise the colour change.

Thats a bit like my health condition-I sometimes fail to notice I’m in a hurricane as the changes from the sunny weather can be so subtle.

Managing a job, a social life and day to day chores and mental health is like trying to juggle balls on a tight rope over a cliff.

Fall off and your life is in the air.

One picture symbolises schizoaffective disorder for me and that is being stuck in a maze with demons tricking you every turn staring into an abyss with a state of mind of panic and suffocation.

How I keep managing to get out of that maze is a mystery but I can be in it for a long time and without medication and family support and some notion of a safety net I couldn’t do it and id be stuck there permanently.’
