Cognitive Abilities Under Stress

Postby ttt123 » Tue Feb 05, 2019 6:15 pm

Hi,
Does Schizoaffective disorder make it hard for you to think straight under stress?

My short term memory and time management at jobs that are high stress, gets really bad. I will make dumbassed mistakes left and right because of it, and then piss off my coworkers, sense they are resenting me and talking about what a dumbass I am, and quit.
Then time will pass, I will get bored, apply for another job in same field (cause that's the only jobs I can seem to get), get really motivated and excited to get a job and start again, then quit after I make a dumbass of myself.

I'm on medications. An antipsychotic and antidepressant. But it doesn't help when I'm under high stress. Seems to affect my cognitive ability.

I had one coworker call me "retarded" because I kept making really dumb mistakes, and also when I am under stress, it's harder for me to engage with customers.

Is it part of the disorder, or something else like early Dementia?

I know I do horrible under stress and it can make usually dormant psychosis reassert itself.

I haven't been able to work for over twenty years because of this, and still have a hard time doing daily routine thanks (no thanks) to the depressive element of my diagnosis.

It's difficult to even walk outside because that's when the voices are at their worst.

Dear TTT123,

I have been diagnosed as schizzoaffective as well as bipolar with psychotic features at different times. I also get very confused and 'foggy' doing simple things and people think I am stupid too. I think it's part of the disease itself but also I think it's my meds. I'm on wellbutrin, geodon, lamotrigene.
