Can't make myself study

Postby Winteriscoming » Wed Dec 21, 2016 2:26 am

I'm having difficulty making my self study. I'm not really sure why, I'm just not doing it. I think it might be part of the negative symptoms.

Although so far this year my grades are good there is a lot of material I haven't studied and I'm concerned I won't finish the year (this has happened often in the past).

Any advice?

I suffered from the same problem. No matter how hard I tried I could not focus on study. I found the problem to be distracting thoughts and obsessions. I was particularly given to day dreaming. So realistic and tempting my day dreams used to be that I could pull my mind away only with great difficulty. But I did it and so can you. Try focussing on something less boring first - such as your hobby.

I am not studying anymore but I have the same issue with work. I just can't manage to do anything at the moment, low mood and too many distracting thoughts as well. I'm lucky because I am working on a project of mine from home so I don't have to deal with a boss, deadlines etc like with a normal job... but still..it sucks :(

I've had this problem my whole life :P

However, I feel that I'll be very much in the same boat soon. I'm returning to studies after a break, and need to get good grades to push up my GPA, and I've never been into studying, so I'll try and brainstorm some possible solutions.

- a big problem with studying is finding motivation, so make a note to yourself as to why you want to study - make a goal for yourself, and keep your eyes on that goal
- try and make studying as easy for you as possible. Look at your natural inclinations - what are the things you find that you naturally have an easy time getting involved with? Creatively tailor your study methods to fit your natural behaviours
- seek help from others, whether this be teachers, or friends and family
- keep your body and mind in good shape. Eat well, sleep well, keep away from recreational drugs (by which I am including things like caffeine and alcohol) as much as possible
- when studying, make clearly defined goals as to what you want to achieve, and make them easily achievable i.e. don't take on too much at once

That's all I can think of for now. Good luck!
