Anyone has had experience with Invega?

Postby marlboro » Sat Mar 14, 2015 2:42 pm

Invega is the only FDA approved treatment for Schizoeffective disorder, from what I read online.

I have Schizoeffective Disorder-- Bipolar type

Currently I am taking Klonopin and Olanzapine. I am having auditory hallucinations all the time.

I am considering switching to Invega.

I am wondering if anyone has had experience with this medication? And, does it also have anti-manic properties?

Hi and welcome to the forum! :D

Have you asked your psychiatrist? Personally Ive never tried Invega, but certainly worth asking about.

I have been on Invega for about three months. I have had my dose raised from 6mg to 9mg but it works fair at controlling my symptoms.

I have Bipolar 1 with mania leading to psychosis. I am on 1.5g lithium and 9mg Invega. Invega is very similar to Risperdal only extended release. It is an anti-psychotic that works for both Bipolar, Schizophrenia, and Schizo Affective. Lithium is also a good mood stabilizer that you may consider with your doctor. It is considered the "Gold Standard" for Bipolar and also helps treat mood swings in Schizo type disorders. It lowers the suicide rate when it is put in the drinking water and it also has a calming effect on mania.

I've been on Invega monthly shots for over a year now. It's great for symptoms, but raises prolactin levels, I started to lactate and I rarely menstruate. I'm thinking about switching to Abifily now.

Invega gave me loss of pleasure and it made my body stiff. But that is just for me though.

I've been on Invega for 3 years, ranging from 3-9 mg. It has been a life saver in terms of psychotic symptoms especially delusions. Also very few if any side effects in my experience.

I just got off of Invega because I was told it caused weight gain and I'm currently trying to lose weight so it was not helping with my goal but now i'm on Latuda and come to find out it causes gain weight too. It even says so on their commercial so I'm definitely gonna have to talk to my doctor and come up with something else that doesnt cause weight gain.

I've been on Invega for 4 years. at 150 mg it's worked very well for me. been on it so long I don't notice the side affects anymore except the lactating, but that only happens in-between the placebo pills in birth control otherwise when I'm on BC I don't lactate, I also have irregular periods because of it as well which is not bleeding when I should for months on end (which i don't mind at all) till I finally have one (have to take prego test each month just in case as well) but other then that it works very well with me.
