Hello. I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder bipolar type 2. I have been hospitalized for this condition once in the past. I'm not taking any of my medications because I simply can't afford them.
I have recently moved states with my boyfriend. No one but my bf knows about my condition here and my only method of coping is not talking. No one knows I see things or hear things because I just don't tell anyone. Now I feel kind of guilty. I don't know. I don't feel like I need to wear a sign around my neck saying I have this condition but I kind of feel like my bf's family should know or maybe my coworkers. I do work a small job as a cashier and I manage that pretty well.. except it feels like I'm calling in "sick" once a week lately. (Although this last time I was truly sick!)
Do you tell people about your mental condition? Or is it really no one's business?

I understand the desire to share your condition, however, I would suggest only sharing on the strictest of a need to know basis. It always seemed to do more harm than good when I shared unnecicarily. Many people will not react well or how you would like them to to this personal information and some may even use it as a reason to discriminate or treat you differently. As far as not being able to afford medication there are options. I saw a doctor for several years that kept me medicated with free samples. There are also programs available for people who cannot afford meds plus some inexpensive generics. Best of luck to you!
I'm definitely a mad man with a box!
