Struggling, I want some input.

Postby Brumble » Sun Mar 30, 2014 4:19 am

Hi guys. I've not been in this forum for quite a long time, so I came back and replied to a few threads. Then I felt like I need a thread of my own so I made this one. I'm struggling tonight, because last night I did not take my antipsychotic medication like I was supposed to. I have not slept last night, I've been awake this whole time and I feel really sick. The medicine I skipped was risperidone, I can not sleep without it. Is it normal to get so sick from not taking risperadone for one night, because I've done this quite a few times and I get the same sickness symptoms. I feel like I'm having a panic attack the whole day, I feel like I'm choking and I'm coughing and need to vomit some times, my whole body is burning up, my stomach is in a lot of discomfort and I have to use the restroom a lot. I'm also getting psychosis symptoms, but that's easy to understand considering I did not take the medicine. I really want some outside input on this situation. Also I am depressed right now, getting the old do your self in intrusive thoughts but ignoring them. I should be better tomorrow after getting back on my antipsychotic medication tonight. Thanks guys.

Hi Brumble -

Medication affects everyone differently. Likewise forgetting to take medication will affect everyone different. If you have missed taking your Risperidone/Risperdal a few times and each time your subsequent symptoms of withdrawal were the same, that should tell you how your body reacts. I wasn't on Risperdal long enough to tell you how I reacted to coming off of it.

My doctor tells me to wait to the next time I should take meds if I miss taking my meds one day. You doctor should tell you what to do.

Some of your symptoms might be caused by the fact you are anxious about missing a dose. If things are too troublesome get a hold of your doc.

I'm sorry you are in such a state. Good luck.

Otter.

Thank you Otter. I'm still up at the moment, its wild how long I can stay awake and not be tired.
Yeah I'm going to see my doctor soon. I should not skip my meds but I make mistakes.
I'm about to get in the shower, then stay up a while longer then take meds and sleep.
I've been making use of being up, posting to threads on forums. :)

We all make mistakes Brumble. Even with my meds I sometimes stay up for days (mania). Take care, and I hope you get some sleep. :)

Thanks Otter. I slept the entire next day, which was yesterday, and slept until 2:21pm today.
Kind of shocking.
I don't know if any one else wants to add any thing but I'll be glad if your reading this and do. :)

Do not knock yourself too hard (remember we are only human) I believe we all have periods of time that we didn't take our medication either by forgetting them or just by needing reassurance that yes we really do need them.
Hope by the time you read this you are feeling better!!

I am on a different antipsychotic medication, but I do experience similar symptoms if I do not take one dose of my medication. I stay up all night, and become agitated and/or hypomanic. As HighJinx stated, try not to be too hard on yourself. Just get back on the horse and pick back up where you left off. I usually tend to sleep really hard the next night as well once I've gotten back on my full dose of medication.

Thanks Guys. Yeah I don't know why I skip taking my medication, knowing how sick it makes me without it. I'm going to work on taking the medication like I'm supposed to from now on. It's just weird to me how little medication I take, then when I go off it I get really bad. I've been forgetting that I really need medication, because I do so good when I'm on it I'm like I'm cured!
