Embarrassed about something I did while hypomanic today

Postby chelsea42 » Wed Aug 12, 2015 4:11 am

Hi guys,

First post here. :D I'm just came down from a 2-day hypomanic fest. After not sleeping for 2 days (and the pills did nothing) I headed to the bar - and no, I don't have a problem with alcohol - to have some drinks. Drinking can bring me down, even though my shrink says, of course, not to do it.

Well, I had 2 beers and when I ordered the 3rd, the older female bartender cut me off. I don't even think she thought I was drunk. (I wasn't). I think it was because I was speaking a mile a minute, bothering other patrons by peppering them with personal questions, and generally acting like someone volatile who was a potentially a loose cannon.

Anyway, it was just mortifying. I'm trying to put this out of my memory, learn from it, etc., but I can't imagine how I must have come off... not good, I'm sure.

Hey Friend!

Yeah, I wouldn't let this bear heavily on your conscious. I mean, were you in the wrong? Yes. I think a good reminder is to not really get too involved with people in their personal affairs at bars. I wouldn't kick this out of your memory, accept it and learn from it.

It certainly doesn't sound like you did anything terrible whatsoever! :)

I think you just need to focus on the signs that indicate that you are becoming manic and try not to put yourself in environments where you might behave inappropriately. That said, my best friend has manic episodes and while he has caused some trouble for himself and others, he also makes me think about how silly certain social conventions are - sometimes a little chaos or even discomfort can be productive, as long as they do not become dangerous, abusive, or violent. :) Definitely don't beat yourself up over this.
