On indecision

Just some fun terminology related to the topic:

1. Analysis paralysis -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analysis_paralysis
is just what it sounds like; the downside of critical thinking in terms of real life.

2. Centipede's Dilemma -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centipede%27s_dilemma
(aka hyper-reflection) "The centipede effect [or syndrome] occurs when a normally automatic or unconscious activity is disrupted by consciousness of it or reflection on it." Namesake is a poem by the same title, "The Centipede's Dilemma", which (originally) goes as follows:
A centipede was happy – quite!
Until a toad in fun
Said, "Pray, which leg moves after which?"
This raised her doubts to such a pitch,
She fell exhausted in the ditch
Not knowing how to run.

3. Buridan's ass -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buridan%27s_ass
Buridan's ass is an illustration of a paradox in philosophy in the conception of free will.

It refers to a hypothetical situation wherein an ass that is equally hungry and thirsty is placed precisely midway between a stack of hay and a pail of water. Since the paradox assumes the ass will always go to whichever is closer, it will die of both hunger and thirst since it cannot make any rational decision to choose one over the other.[1] The paradox is named after the 14th century French philosopher Jean Buridan, whose philosophy of moral determinism it satirizes. A common variant of the paradox substitutes two identical piles of hay for the hay and water; the ass, unable to choose between the two, dies of hunger.

Interesting, especially the ass when it comes to how conflicting needs can "freeze" a person.
