Sometimes with my university I get offensive comments on my assignments. One of my tutors said part of my assignment was "unsubstantiated rave". I have contacted the university about this, because I had to resubmit the assignment and am worried about any further comments I may get. It is a sense of dread about the comments from all my assignments, although it was only this one comment that offended me. It doesn't help that it takes them a month to mark the assignment, which just makes the anxiety worse since it doesn't disappear until I get the assignments back.

Although I go to school, I've yet to ever need a tutor (knock on wood). What exactly are they for? I would imagine to help students who are having trouble with their work. Taking this into consideration, I would assume a lot of constructive comments would be written on your work. After all, if your work didn't need a little help, you wouldn't be there in the first place. What else was written on the paper besides "unsubstantiated rave"?

One of the tutors marks my assignment. There was a couple of positive comments. She said my writing was clear and that I displayed critical reading techniques. It was just this one comment that I was a bit perplexed by.

"Unsubstantiated rave" - c'mon, that's the only rave that's enjoyable. Was that the only negative comment in your assignment?
I'm receptive to all types of comments for my assignments. If I don't like a negative one or so - I'll simply bring it up with them and find out if it's worth disputing. Like Incorrigible mentioned, tutors are meant to offer constructive feedback. At least write a meaningful, worthwhile comment even if it has negative connotations. Bloody academic elites (supposedly).

You can get tutors for university? Are you serious?
I really hope if i ever need surgery, my surgeon didn't have a tutor help him with his work.. O.o
But, its just a comment, if you have a problem with it bring it up to the teacher.. or tutor, or whom ever marked it, and ask about it.. as the above person mentioned.
