I think there is a forum called gonegothic. It is all ages, but mostly people under 25. I believe you're in your early 20s so it might be a nice way to meet more goths.
I'm actually interested in the goth lifestyle. Of course, in any group you are going to find people who say "you aren't emo/goth/metal enough, you're just a poseur." If you look long enough, you might find the ones who aren't full of themselves. If you don't, there isn't any harm in finding people who accept the style or way of life who will care about you. If it makes you feel strange, like an outcast or like you're out of place because of clothing differences, you can find a balance you are comfortable with. Like not wearing fishnet stockings, but wearing black. Goths don't have to adhere to a particular color, some are neon goths. Part of being a goth is thinking outside of the box, and there are many people who don't view themselves as goths who do just that.
If you believe you always end up with the wrong people, you should consider their behaviors quickly (after talking to them a few of times) and not waste time if you feel it is going a certain route.
