Misunderstanding about insecurity. Please help.

Hello everyone ,
My boyfriend is the dominant one in our relationship and I like it that way because I'm not a good initiator and am a boring person in general. So i need him to be dominant and am completely fine with it.
My boyfriend thinks I'm insecure about my position in our relationship. And when we're in a group I try to show others I'm the dominant one. When I don't ! I don't put him down in front of others or do anything to show that. When I asked him why do you think that way he said my tone changes in a group and he doesn't like it and it shows him that I'm insecure. I really don't understand what tone he's talking about and it really hurts to know that he thinks I'm insecure when I'm not.

What should i do ? Or tell him to clear this misunderstanding. Please help.
