Whats a good medication for obsessiveness

Postby SBBro » Thu May 08, 2014 6:11 am

Dunno if obsessiveness is the right word, I have OCD but I dont think its my OCD either.

My major problem is I contact girls too much, I have trouble going 1-2 days without contact even when I am busy.
I am considering 200mg sertraline/zoloft but I am wondering if there is a more effective choice besides anti psychotics.

I understand this might be a social problem rather than a psychological problem but I still want to medicate it.

Do you just miss a particular girl? Love certain girl?. . . or do you get anxious being alone,. . . worried they're doing something with out u? . . no wrong answer, I'm just wondering what drives the anxiety behind your Obsession. . .OCD is an anxiety based disorder, so what's the underlying issue. ?

I think it might be a control issue or anxious attachment disorder, however I can go indefinitely without being in any sort of relationship so I dont think its anxious attachment.

I dont love the girl, we arnt even exclusive. Im not jelous, although there is some fear of losing her and I do not feel secure but rightfully so.

I just get an urge to contact the person, more so if I dont get contact from them myself I feel like I need to pull them towards me even when I know its pushing them away. When I try restrain myself I feel irritated and I start to resent them for lack of contact even though we arnt even exclusive and there should be no expectations. This only happens if I have genuine interest in the girl on an emotional level, so if its purely a ###$ buddy I have no emtional interest in I couldn't care less and actually prefer the least amount of contact.

Another thing similar I do is with only my close friends if they dont answer their phone I will keep calling if I know there is only a 50/50 chance they will remember to call me back after work. If we have a fight over it I will rationalise all my behaviour.
But with women I know I am doing something wrong.

I'm slightly familiar with the feeling your describing. .sounds like possible issue with poor impulse control. The prefrontal cortex effects reasoning, decision making, etc. . As the brain matures, it slowly but surely developes the ability to delay gratification.. . in some situations. Plus social pressure dictates a certain of self control in order to recognized as mature. . For some ppl, impulse control can be a real challenge. In fact quite of few different PDs would identify with impulse control issues. There are medications that can help, however differentiating which one would be entirely contingent upon the diagnosis you fall under and all that would need the clinical expertise of a psychologist and psychiatrist. . that's really where you're gonna find the most lconclusive answers. Sorry can't give better answer

I dont think it is an impulse though because if I do cave in its after some thought, in other words I wont ever do it impulsively.

Well that's good, cuz that ones hard to change. . I know with me, I absolutely cannot tolerate boredom. Its the worse feeling on earth and I def had situations when I've talked 25 different ppl in one evening just to engage. . I at one point dated 3 dudes bc of it. . not crazy like that anymore, but I remember it. . when I also myself to do nothing in a state of boredom, that's when I make seriously irresponsible desicions. . idk that may not be ur deal at all but that's def my trigger

I can understand what you are saying but that's not my problem. I could be doing something and I will still get the urge, if its fulfilled I can go back to being alone.

If it wasnt for me being able to tolerate being single so well I would suspect I had anxious RAD, I guess I have traits though, but I am not after re-assurance, I am after company and if it has to be over the phone then thats okay but I will want a certain amount of physical company too.

Hey SBBro,

We are not able to diagnose or advise on the use of medications here as this is just a support site. For that kind of advise speaking with a doctor would be best. Putting aside the request for medical advise...

It looks like you are getting some really good insights from others.
