stuck in an asylum

There is a lot to say, so I'll just try and stick to the important stuff so I don't drift off to much. Thank you to anyone who reads all this:

Came into the company I'm with now 6 months ago. The manager that hired me was very friendly, we'll call him Bruce. My friend Lisa got me the job, and she was working at a site where a guy there was sexually harassing her. The supervisor, Alice supported her on it, then changed her mind and stabbed her in the back and Lisa was over reacting on the situation. LIsa talked to Bruce more about it but instead of firing the guy for it they just transferred him to another site, cause he was deemed a good worker otherwise.

Alice somewhat silently blamed Lisa for this and things got awkward so Lisa requested to get the heck out of there. Soon after they have a hole to fill and I get asked to fill in that spot. A week into it I think this may not be so bad, I'll just do my work, never mention Lisa or this other guy and hopefully at some point in the near future I'll get out. But at that point she brought up Lisa and asked how she was an she made the mistake of saying to me that it was all Lisa's fault. That this guy was innocent, yatta yatta. I was caught off guard but I did say that it is entirely inappropriate to stare at a woman to the point she becomes uncomfortable and makes clear indications of that. She tried to say it was Lisa's fault for the shirt she wore and what's a guy to do but look. Yeah I'm serious!

So I went to Bruce about it. My wording was not the best. I basically said look I'm not comfortable here with her and what she said, but I figure she's just trying to make piece with what happened (she said a few nice things of Lisa)that I know your short staffed now so I can hang in til you got more people but I want out. He said I had a feeling putting you in that spot wasn't the best idea, I'll get you the transfer but it will be a while.

The next day she's asking if any of the comments she made in the office made me uncomfortable because Stan and Tracy said they did. I don't remember saying anything to either of them, as I didn't trust either of them and feel Bruce said something even though I said when you transfer me just say you need to move me so its not awkward. I should mention that Alice and Bruce are very close and her husband is practically best friends with Bruce as well! I think some things leak over.

Six weeks past that time I want to check in with Bruce, see if he's maybe got anything lined up. Just touching base. At lunch I send him a text asking him and instead of getting a response (I never did), less then 30 minutes later Alice is coming to me saying so your requesting a transfer out of here. She had a biter tone about it and said do whatever you want I don't care. I'm thinking that should have been confidential! And then she's the one telling me from him that they're is no spot. Me and the other guy that wanted to get out desperately are told by her that he's too busy to transfer anyone for a long time. And because I now don't feel I can trust Bruce I don't know what I can ask him without it going back to her.

Additionally many people left the last location she was at because they despised her. She's a gossip queen, she demands too much out of people, she puts herself on the easiest jobs and sits around or talks during the last hour when were all supposed to be getting together for the hardiest work of the day. She makes frequent sexual comments, which in the first week I should have said was not cool, but when she asked if we were cool with it I just shrugged it off and thought just joking around in the office. She's unhappily married and talked about sleeping with tons of guys and her husband is pissed, then she tries after 6 months to tell me she lied about it all, just said it to shock and amuse us. She'll do her inspection and find something she finds not up to par and instead of saying she noticed it she points the finger at someone else. Oh Johnny noticed his boxes weren't neatly stacked up in his storage room, only to find out when I'm there he didn't even notice. I caught her several times in a lie she doesn't know about. And its needless most of the time cause she's doing her job inspecting. Other times she's just trying to turn people on each other. Saying another employee said I was leaving without notice or saying certain nasty comments about me. Weather or not they are true she should not be saying them, she's inciting hate by doing so.


I should have been looking for a new job a long time along but haven't been seriously looking until May 1st. The other guy has already gotten out, I'm putting my resume in several places, but I'm a bit picky. I don't want to work nights and don't have a ton of experience outside what I do. I try to sometimes laugh and joke around cause I don't want to be miserable there all the time. I don't know if that's been misconstrued by her to Bruce that I'm okay there, as a lot of the time I'm distant and quite.

There is a union that we voted for 2 months ago, waiting certification. Seems the company is drawing it out as long as they can and who knows how much longer it will be before its fully in. Otherwise I would try and use it to my advantage. Seems sometimes like my luck has run out. I haven't been able to get that transfer, the union is taking forever to get in, the old job I had where is was often told I was amazing at didn't happen. I was told there was a hiring freeze, to come back in 3 weeks and I did and she had already hired 3 people. Maybe I should have applied online. I went home and I noticed the manager there blocked me on face book. I was not on her list I simply asked her when I should come in and a week later I simply stated I was going to try and come in at this time. I know she got the message cause it said 'message seen'. But she never replied to say don't bother.


Now I'm looking to go to Bruce Monday and ask about that transfer. If he's so busy as Alice 'claims' then why did he transfer in another employee who was unhappy where they were, over to us. And over Lisa a transfer is she wasn't happy in her new spot (they were ganging up on her there).

My union rep doesn't recommend me doing this, cause were not certified and because Alice got all pissy last time and he figures Bruce will go behind my back again which I don't doubt. I could try and be careful and say look last time she found out about it..... why? (even though I know why).

so yeah I'm hunting for a job on the market but no luck yet. HELP! thanks.

Personally, I like working nights and would always choose night shifts over day shifts, but maybe working nights aren't for everyone. Personally, I only sleep for a few hours a day with one 3 hour core nap with 2-3 additional 20 minute naps. Basically the Everyman polyphasic sleep schedule is what I use and that works well with night shifts in my opinion.

But yeah....office politics, yikes! I don't like womanizers either, but looking at it from the company's perspective, I actually commend Bruce for not the firing the guy because of a sexual harassment accusation. it would have been very easy to overreact and fire the guy, but the company might have a lost a very competent worker and over something very trivial at that.

Is talking to Bruce about this a bad idea? If he goes to Alice about it, its uncomfortable but then if she brings it up to me I can say its my personal business between Bruce and I.
