Girlfriend has a problem with addiction/depression

Postby Y0ung8unz » Tue Feb 26, 2013 12:13 am

I have been with my gf for two years and most of the time we have a pretty good relationship. However, at points where she feels she does not have control, she does crazy things. One time when I plagiarized love letters to her, she went crazy and started to drink excessively and she finally stopped after she was caught drinking and driving. However, later when I told her I decided to have a different religious view from her, she started smoking weed..

And she would smoke with her "friends" and one time when she went to smoke at a male "friend" house, he sexually assaulted her when she was high.. I got an std because of this.. And I don't know what to do.. She has had a past of sexual abuse in her youth so that may be the reason she turns to drinking and/or smoking and her psych diagnosed her with depression and she take meds for depression but she refused out of fear that it may change her.. But I don't know what to do here..I'm not sure if I should stay because she acts crazy when she feels she does not have control..

Get out before it gets worse, because it's only going to get worse. Better to get out when you don't have to pay to get out.

Thank you. I just have no idea why she does eradicate things when she feel she does not have control. I wonder why she puts herself in dangerous situations like that. I guess I just have hope that she will stop. She told me she will never put herself in that situation again (giving up smoking weed altogether and going to her people's houses). Because the problem is she would go with other "friends" but they are high as well and she cannot protect herself or know what's going on. But one of my main questions is: Could that be linked to her past sexual abuse?

She couldn't protect herself in the past. Maybe she kept safe but it didn't do any good so it doesn't seem to matter where she goes now, if it happened anyways. She is probably used drugs to self medicate. I actually believe people can get better with support and environments free of the sexual aggressors, those things are just sometimes hard to impossible to obtain

Thank you for the information. I'm definitely having a tough time with all this. I just had trouble believing that she could not remember being sexually assaulted because she was high.. I found out this happened due to us having an std..

Maybe she was more than high. Some People do drug other people and I've done weed that put me really out of it. It was pretty strong.

But can weed by itself put somebody out so much they don't know they were penetrated?

I've near blacked out before from it, but I sometimes do that on prescriptions too. Some people block painful experiences, and some people just don't think much of anything. So I couldn't say for certain if it was enough to make her not notice.
