Triggering dates

Postby milkybargurl » Mon Feb 12, 2007 11:27 pm

I cant get over certain dates. Today would have been the birthday of the guy that raped me, without fail i seem to hold this thought constantly within my head for the entire day. Similarly i was raped a week before my birthday and i cannot help but associate my birthday with this and think about nothing but what happend in the run up to it, so looking forward to next month! I was raped 8years ago when i was 12, is it unusual that i still find it soo hard to detatch certain dates from such memories? Does anyone have any advice to deal with it or is it just a case of the more time, the less i will remember... cus as of yet that strategy doesnt seem to be helpin and if anything i consciously remember them more! !

Hun it's normal to associate the dates with what happened to you.

I think it's really important that you remind yourself where you are now, and that you are safe, that those people can no longer hurt you like they did. Remember is apart of healing as well, so anniversaries of certain trauma's can be horrible.

Is there someone that can help you deal with this?
Find ways to cope and so forth?
