But its such a pleasure when you do get it under control. Such a pleasure. I suppose the same could be said for drugs, if you can use them with no addiction resulting, you can enjoy all the ups, with non of the downs (Excluding the imediate after-effects, but even those can be dulled).

Well, most addictions bring happiness, if even briefly. However, it's when you lose control that they become problematic. Ideally, the human race would be able to cope with drugs, but the vast majority of the human race is not intelligent and therefore are prone to addictive behaviour.
