28 year old recovering pyromaniac seeks others

Postby redpoet » Sun May 01, 2005 3:13 am

i have found little or no services that provide advice or support for pyromania. I am 28 and have some history of pyromania in my life. I agree in certain instances with some descriptive psychological analysis of individuals who suffer from this disorder in that yes setting fires is a release of tension. Yet i do not believe that sometimes a pyromaniac has to plan an attempt to release such tension and that it can happen in one instant. I am overwhelmed to see that there is little support for such a disorder as precedent as pyromania. Is there a need for a web site and chat room for sufferers, recovering or not. i would like to hope that this post is read with the intention of meeting people who can relate to myself or others. i would most certainly like to link or support others that have had the same experiences as myself. My email address is redpoet@fsmail.net. i would appreciate any serious responses to this post and i thank you for reading it.

TV Documentary

Hi there,
I am seeking people who would like to contribute to a serious documentary for channel 4 on fire-setting.
You may not identify yourself as a pyromaniac, but you might have felt compelled to light fires for many different and complex reasons. You might just be fascinated by fires without acting out on this fascination.
If so, we would like to speak to you.
We believe that there is not enough support out there for people with these impulses, and that the exposure in media is not satisfactory. We hope to make some small difference to that.
My e-mail is dan@firecrackerfilms.com. Phone no. 0207 637 9310.

Same here! On both accounts. Fire and scissors...I have no idea why. :?

I always kinda felt dead inside, like I wasn't real and fire represented the life and unpredictibility I couldn't feel. So when I set things alight I feel alive.

Whats the cause of Pyromania/phillia? Is it some attachment to getting rid of everything or the destruction, or the attributes of fire?

Thanks for any help,
Student
P.S. There is some odd joy about it ^_^

Don't you think its wrong?

people come here to talk to people like themselves, for support. Not for studies and statistics. These people want someone to talk to... what your doing isnt right. think about it.

Almost every day after I come home from school I pour gasoline onto an action figure and light him on fire. Then I laugh as he melts. Helps me relieve the stress and anger of my day, although Its probably because Im really ###$ up.

I set a self-help book on fire the other day, just to watch it burn and I enjoyed it. I suppose that makes me a pyro. I only start fires when I get depressed. I find it releasing.

I don't know why, but I always love the smell of a match burning, even if I don't set anything else on fire. For me, the smell that gets released when I light a match is always something which brings me pleasure, and not the sight of something burning.

I've sometimes lit matches for no reason other than the fact that I LIKE the smell a match releases. I also sometimes chew on the heads of unused matches, so I think that this means I have a bizarre form of pyromania, if I have one at all.

I do love the smell that comes from matches though!
The only reason the government pays for my college education is so I will pay them more money in taxes throughout my lifetime. Now, if they are expecting me to like them for it, tough $#%^.
