self-esteem issues since face flattened with orthodontics

My 14 year old daughter is traumatized by the changes to her face since having her 4 premolars extracted for braces. Her face sank inward, and she--once a beautiful kid-now has a recessed jaw line, sunken cheeks and a flat face.

The changes in her personality are horrific to see. Once allways a cheerful social girl, eager for all activities, who loved school, she now is depressed, does not want to see her friends, says she is too ashamed of how she looks, and repeatedly says she just wants to die.

She is visibly disfigured, so she is not exaggerating.

We have sought solutions to fix her face. We first spoke to her orthodontist who says the changes are "normal" and then did everything to get us out of the office. We then took her to jaw surgeons who have confirmed the changes are permanent, and to her jaw structure, but they cannot operate on her until she is 20.

How can she (and we) deal with this until she is 20? I am already afraid that my little girl is permanently traumatized by this awful violation of her face. I have read into trauma studies about rape victims, and she seems to have the same PTSD symptoms.

Who can I take her to that will understand? We tried one therapist, but this person did not take my daughter's complaints seriously, and made her feel worse by claiming they were "dysmorphia" and "natural teenage feelings."

Now she refuses to go see another one. But we want to try. Please advise.
