Does PTSD only come from 'life threatening' traumatic experiences, or can it come from experiences that don't so much threaten the body, but the mind? As in, completely changes your whole life/outlook on life, and threatens your mental stability instead of your ability to stay alive?

Am I making sense here?

I would say that PTSD can come from the mental trauma you describe - why do you ask?

Well I'm pretty sure I have PTSD, and have for a long time. I fit the symptoms and I can pin point a cause, I just was always confused because of the seeming need to be in a life threatening situation to develop it.

No you are right, things other than life threatening events can cause it.

That's a really good question. I've always wondered the same thing myself, since I have ptsd and I've never been in a life-threatening situation, or at least that I know of. Then again, I have no idea what caused my ptsd so its all a big mystery to me.

Thanks crackedgirl since you answered my question too.:)
