Super Powers!!

Postby Onebravegirl » Wed Mar 24, 2010 6:52 pm

Live with this disorder long enough and you may begin to appreciate some of the special abilities you gain from the side effects.
For instance I can read people instantly, and I am very rarely wrong. As a survivor of CPTSD, my years of hyper vigilance made it necessary to predict and assess people and their behavior in order to feel safe. Figuring out peoples motives has now become second nature. And to me this is a super power! Any one else noticed abilities that they have gained because of having lived with PTSD or CPTSD?

After first falling off a cliff, and then getting hit by an speeding car while on my bicycle, in both cases being relatively unharmed (the cliff fall gave me a cut on the foot and on my hands comparable to what I get often in surfing accidents, and the road burn I got from the car being comparable to the grassburn I got the previous day from falling off my bike, just many more of them. I stood up within 2 seconds in both cases, infact, on the cliff fall I quite literally bounced off the rock.) I have a strange feeling of invincibility, but not as in my own strength, but like I am protected by God for some higher purpose. This purpose is slowly being revealed to me.

I have the hyper vigilance thing going too. I guess it is ok when it works, I tend to keep a keen sense of situations around me, like where people are and what they are doing.

I think my main issue with that is, if the hyper vigilance fails for some reason, e.g. I let myself daydream and wasn't aware of some person and I get startled, I can go into reaction/shock mode... and it's like my body just explodes with reflex and it gets me spinning, ducking, dodging or whatever, without thinking and I don't realize what I am doing until after... then I get that panic in my chest where my heart is racing and my body feels like it is full of electricity or something, and get that pressure on my chest like somebody is sitting on me and my eyes feel like they become the size of dinner plates.

So um.. yeah. Being able to sense people is kinda cool. Being surprised, not so much.
