PTSD...I don't know.

Story made short..

Had a weird childhood and I got kidnapped and drugged a couple of times in my teens.

Never really thought about it too much at the time. Just kind of bounced back and carried on with my life.

Anyway years later I started to become really anxious around people and if a stranger approached me in the street I would get the memory of being kidnapped and I would either lash out or just run.

I've never had therapy for this because it's not something I've really spoke about out loud.

Wondering if it's worth mentioning the possibility of PTSD to my psychiatrist when I go for my annual visit.

I would say definitely yes, if you are experiencing anxiety in the present related to fears created in a past event, that is potentially related to PTSD. But even if it wasn't, your psychiatrist still should be able to help with the anxiety. So you have nothing to lose by discussing it. I'm sure your psychiatrist would want you to ask about it.

Sometimes you live with something for so long that it just becomes part of you.

Like I've struggled with my anger for quite a while and I think my anger is linked to this as well but I've never seeked help for it. I think the anger does come from the anxiety.
