haven't done this before. Probably won't again. Just wondering if there is actually a way to recover from all this. It kind of seems if it hasn't happened after all these years it probably won't. It seems like I'd probably die of natural causes before there could ever be an end to all of this. Should I just do what ever it takes not to think? It just gets so hard to do that anymore.

I don't think total complete recovery is possible for everyone, it depends on the details of the trauma.

But I have recovered enough to get a job, do voluntary work, and go out with my friends.

See your PTSD as a gift, I have tried to see it that way and it does help. What do I mean? well, you have been through something, and you can use that understanding to help others in a similar position. Eg; if you were raped/had your house burnt down/saw someone die, you can use your experience to help others get through whatever they went through.
That's why I have started posting on this website, to help others get through PTSD and recover enough to get back into work....
And helping others helps my recovery too.

best of luck, and I'll post my story on here when I get back from work.

^^

I agree, I still get triggers and body memories but they are far in between, and rarely bother me unless something triggers it.
