Marriage to a psychopath caused severe C-PTSD

Postby mcmjuly » Sat Jul 12, 2014 12:40 am

After a childhood filled with severe neglect and abuse, I married a psychopath who systematically dismantled my life, left for another woman, and never looked back at how much he had hurt me. I'm not the same person now. I lost my desire to form relationships with the opposite sex and don't believe I will ever get it back. It's been 7 years since my marriage ended, and my spirit is injured in a way only the other unfortunate souls who have traveled this road can relate to. If anyone out there is suspecting they may be dating or married to a psychopath, I suggest you really look into it, because the aftermath of being with a psychopath is something no one wants to experience. Your life will change in extreme ways and you will not like any of them.

Not every psychopath is an azzhole. Not every azzhole is a psychopath.

My parents were psychopathic though, and I was abused a lot since I was born.

C-PTSD can be helped by GETTING YOUR POWER BACK, I believe. It helps me.

be it revenge
justice :!:
or just making him pay for the damage he caused. :|

Bad people and their bad actions leave a terrible impression in our minds, and I think you have to tell your mind you can fight back and win in order to improve how you feel.

^ justice is good.. revenge will hurt you in the long term.. seriously.

I'm sorry that you're struggling with all of this..
Quite often, people that were abused in childhood unconsciously seek out the abusive type in adulthood because they're familiar with that kind of person.. they are drawn to and they draw in this type.. it takes a huge amount of insight to be able to move beyond those unconscious processes but I'm seeing a strength and healthy dose of anger in your post.. that suggests you could be ready to try something different eventually..
Nothing wrong with being single at all if that's okay with you.. but if you would like to try dating again then it may be a good idea to ask for a hand in moving forwards from this point..

do you have a therapist that could help you a little bit with this stuff..?

Yep.... Part of the child's coping skills revolve around total submission and turning off their perceptions to the abuser, so they don't notice stuff they can't get away from or feel hurt anymore.

When you grow up, this becomes a huge issue when it comes to AVOIDING people like those in the first place, because they'll be at a "blind spot".

Other factors come into the picture, like feelings of "going back to fix things", or "this time I can make it work". Forget guilt and remorse, you didnt do anything. And you don't own the world a responsability to entertain or "save" abusive people.

Get your power back and be sure footed from now on! it's about YOU.
