EMDR

Anyone here tried EMDR?

I read about it, tried it myself and got nothing but feeling silly afterwards. I imagine doing that with a therapist next to me would just fuel the memories.

Has anyone here had true success with EMDR?

Hi,
My name is Holly. I had EMDR after the loss of my Mother, to help me through the grieving process, in which I was stuck in. I don't know if it really helped or not, or whether it just eventually got some time and distance from the situation. I guess it helped. LOL I was worried a little though because I have a seizure disorder, and I was afraid the blinking lights would send me into a seizure. They promised me it wouldn't, and it didn't

I did EMDR for a few months to deal with a series of traumas. It did help distance me from thinking about what happened all the time and it helped me keep my calm around those who were involved in the traumas. Certain things will still trigger me, but it's not as often anymore. Occasionally, it did fuel the memories and we spent a lot of time working through them. Sometimes, I also left sessions feeling silly and when I ended my time with that therapist, it didn't seem like it helped at all. But now, a few months later, I am noticing a bit of a change. I didn't use the lights though, I used these little gadgets that you hold and they vibrate in a certain pattern. The therapist can change the rate of the vibrations depending on your comfort level.

Thanks for the responses. Honestly, it just sounds silly to me... Placebo effect and exposure at most.
Lost interest.

Nevermind this thread, future posters, unless you wanna share EMDR experiences for others to read.

Were you thinking about maybe trying EMDR when you started this thread though..?

If so.. what made you think about it in the first place and what's made you lose interest in trying it..?

I've not tried it myself but i'd consider it if it was offered to me.. it's got a good reputation for helping people with PTSD..
