Is this normal for PTSD

Postby IWantToRecover » Wed Jan 29, 2014 12:27 am

I experienced trauma a very long time ago. I had no problem with PTSD symptoms years (experienced them mildy), then all of a sudden as a result of therapy and reflection, I've been having a lot of intrusive imagery, thoughts and re-experiencing. A lot of dissociating and PTSD symptoms in general. Is this a normal course of PTSD? I also have OCD. I have not done any therapy on the PTSD itself yet.

What medications or therapy can help me stop this?

I also have bipolar disorder and am going to be on trileptal and Geodon, currently phasing out lamictal and zyprexa. My mood is almost under control, but PTSD seems to be a major trigger for both manic and depressive episodes.
Bipolar I, social anxiety disorder (no longer meet the criteria), OCD (no longer meet the criteria)
Lamictal 150 mg + abilify 2mg
Talk therapy, CBT and DBT (it actually worked for my anxiety issues!)

It very well could be PTSD. It can be a late onset. There are medication that can help. My doc talked to be about prazosin (for PTSD nightmares) and there are others you can try. Talk to your doc about which is best for you. As far as therapy is concerned, stick with it... I know it's hard. But, the only way to get to the other side is to go through (unfortunately) :(

Thank you so much! My pdoc has not really asked about PTSD, though we did talk about the trauma. I am not sure why I'm getting very easily triggered. I think that moving into a new place seems to have really brought it out.
