Is it even possible to be diagnosed with Complex...

Postby Hopeisreal » Tue Apr 30, 2013 7:22 pm

...Post Traumatic Stress disorder in the UK? I have heard that it's not seen as an actual diagnosis in the UK. I've been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. However, my symptoms fit those of Complex Post traumatic Stress disorder perfectly. Borderline Personality Disorder is not a dreadful fit, but there are important aspects of it that really don't fit me. Is it worth mentioning this to a professional, or is it not even a diagnosis in the UK, and therefore pointless to bring it up? The problem is that I want to try and tell my 'story' to someone....apparently this is an important part of the process of dealing with post traumatic stress. However, I have a counsellor, and she tries to keep me talking about what I want from the future. This is a positive focus, and I do like her. However, all I want is to not have these current behaviours. I want to stop dissociating, as I can't bear doing that, and I want to make peace with my past somehow. Is it an actual diagnosis or not? Any help would be appreciated.

I've been wondering the same thing. The symptoms fit me perfectly. I used to have PTSD as a diagnosis but not anymore. I still have BPD and now Bipolar NOS instead of rapidcycling. I'm sick of the subjective diagnosing though. Different diagnosis I get with each new doctor. It's like wtf?

I think it's probably worth mentioning to a professional if you are feeling like your symptoms fit better with CPTSD... Even if it's not technically an accepted diagnosis where you are, mentioning the issues that you are experiencing may change their approach to your treatment, so I definitely think it's worth bringing up.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.
