Something bad happened a long time ago
It’s not her fault and nobody knows
So sometimes she sees only black or white
Just good or bad; she knows it’s not right
Sometimes she can’t get a sense of herself
But seems to find it in somebody else
And if they leave she knows she will die
So, she constructs an alibi
To push them away as fast as she can
Then, another man
Someone who is empty, someone who won’t care
She takes the abuse - it only seems fair
Over and over and over again
She abandons herself
Will it ever end?
She wants it to stop but she can’t get control
Of the fear that she feels deep in her soul
So very lonely, in so much pain
Afraid that she’ll never find love again
My love is like fire so hot to the touch
She wants it so badly and fears it so much
But my love is stronger than all of her fear
When she tries to run it’s my voice she will hear
Calling to her on all frequencies
Quietly pulling her close to me
She will know only safety, acceptance, and love
A rock to hold on to when she feels the flood
Just when she feels she’s fading to black
I’m locked on to her; I’m bringing her back
To a place she’ll find shelter - a place that is real
She can find who she is and finally heal
I’m reaching out, gently one step behind
There’s a soft place to fall
In these arms of mine
