A CHILDS DREAM
I had a dream last night;
and in it things turned out right.
I dreamed Daddy didn't leave us:
for Mommy and Daddy never did fight.
I dreamed Suzie came over to play;
she was with us all day:
Mommy or Daddy didn't call her Ni***r
instead they had nice things to say.
I dreamed we had food on thee table to eat
we could even afford meat
I dreamed I never knew hunger
and life was a big feast.
I dreamed I had no scares or bruises from my parents hate
and I was proud to be their child for they were great.
They told me they loved me and cared;
when it came to loving each other
we were top rate.
Now I have woke and risen
feeling cold inside and frozen
no longer in a child's dream
my life a dark and lonely prison.
If only that childs dream could be filled
if only that dream I could have willed
if only as a child I could have known love
If only those scares I could rise above.
Above the fantasy of my mind
above this reality of mine.
I wrote this poem when I was 10.
